Restaurant Review: El Chico (Ingolstadt, Germany)

One of the things that I miss the most about living in Atlanta is the stretch of highway that has all the authentic Asian/Mexican/Tex-Mex food markets and restaurants. I've gotten my fix of all the different types of Asian foods by going directly to the source (love love love Thai food!), but Mexican/Tex-Mex food has been a lot harder to come by in Korea. Living in Germany doesn't make Mexican food all that more accessible either, but I've found a doozy of a restaurant that certainly qualifies as serving crave-able Tex-Mex!

The only hitch is that this restaurant is in Ingolstadt, so you'll probably never go to that area unless you're going there to personally pick up your Audi, or headed to Ingolstadt Village for outlet shopping. If you're doing any of these activities, GO TO THIS RESTAURANT.

It's called El Chico, and if you drive by too quickly, you'll miss it. It's tucked under an awning of trees at a corner at the edges of Ingolstadt. They have a lovely outdoor area that is perfect for drinking margaritas outdoors in good weather, but you can enjoy your Mexican food during the winter too! Their indoor area is spacious and filled with Mexican and South American knick-knacks, tiles, and mosaics. Service is a bit slow, so you'll have to be patient.

California Nachos

I have dreamt about these nachos for a good few months now. Pepperoni pieces, tomato pieces, jalapeño slices, black olives, three different types of cheese all melted ooey-gooey-like on top, and baked in the oven. I love charred chip pieces because they taste so much more authentic.  

Pepinos= cheesy cheese jalapeño poppers= YUM.

Be careful of the cheese, it'll ooze out of there right into your lap!

We went for the DIY fajitas and got our sides of shredded lettuce, guacamole, sour cream, cheese, and salsa first.

Beef fajitas "El Chico"= skillet-crisped beef strips with bell peppers and onions for the fajitas.

Chicken fajitas "El Chico" = skillet-cooked juicy chicken breasts with bell peppers and onions for the fajitas.

Mashed purple refried beans!

It ain't a Tex-Mex party til the margaritas arrive... but in this case, more like watery strawberry juice with alcohol in it. 

I wouldn't recommend the strawberry margaritas there...

...but everything else is delish! So get your butts to El Chico for the most authentic Mexican/Tex-Mex experience this side of the world.
