Lifestyle: Going to a Ball

After arrival in Frankfurt on Thursday evening, I've been running around town shopping and generally getting ready for the boy's graduation ceremony and Master's Ball being held... TODAY! I'm typing this whilst getting my hair done for the day, but wanted to show you the outfits and accessories planned for today's festivities:

For the afternoon graduation ceremony:
I opted for a flowery print because dammit I'm just not ready for summer to be over! I know that Korea is still feeling the heat wave until at least after mid-September, but Germany gets chilly when the sun dips behind the clouds. Thus, I've paired my silk floral dress with a deep blue elbow-length loose-formed jacket to keep my shoulders warm. The blue suede strappies match the hints of blue in the dress and jacket, and the pop of color is unexpected but gorgeous.

For jewelry, I wanted to keep things delicate and silvery because of all the cool tones in my outfit. I will wear a pair of diamond and pearl drop earrings from Mikimoto, bracelets customized from Korea and South Carolina, a delicate diamond necklace from Tiffany, and various rings.

Makeup is super understated. I just hate that caked-on makeup look, especially during the daytime when the sun hits your face and you look like you have a different skin on because the powder/foundation/blush/bronzer are all showing in their different layers. I will, in fact, not wear any face makeup at all, with the exception of concealer (MAC Studio Finish Concealer in NC 30) thinly applied to my dark circles. Eyebrows are filled in lightly (Benefit Smokin' Eyes Brow Set), and I will use earth tones like muted brown, light beige, and a bit of gold in the inner eye. I used MAC Mineralize Eyeshadow in "This and That" that I picked up yesterday as a set, and the gold comes from Chanel Illusion D'Ombre in #89 Vision. A bit of MAC Graphblack Technakohl Eyeliner in Black eyeliner on the top eye line only, a slight rub on my cheeks with Nars highlighter in Laguna, and a wipe of Dior Glow to enhance my natural lip color should finish the look.

Tonight for the dinner and the Ball, I have a navy floor-length one-shoulder-strapped ball gown with braiding details in the bust. I had the option of purple or navy, but went with navy because I wanted to really play with color with my accessories, but ultimately have a classic overall look. My shoes will be glittery silver sky-high heels.

I was feeling very jewel-toned with this entire outfit, so went for an emerald green on my fingertips (Zoya Ivanka is absolutely breathtaking) and a glittery bomb on my toes (Deborah Lippman's "Happy Birthday"). I kept my Mikimoto pearl and diamond drop earrings on, and kept my hair classic with Hollywood waves, adding a twist (literally) to the left side of my head that will accentuate the shoulder strap.

I wanted my makeup to sync with my deep Hollywood waves, so a classic winged tip on the upper lash line with a liquid eyeliner (I swear by MAC Liquidlast Liner in Black), perfectly groomed and filled in eyebrows, and a smoky eyeshadow should complement the outfit. However, as with my hair, I added a little twist to my look by taking a turquoise and green eyeliner from Nars (Larger Than Life Eyeliner in Rue de Rivoli and Abbey Road) and combining the colors for a thinly drawn jewel-toned eyeliner on the bottom lash line. I've done this look before, it looks fabulous in person, and it goes perfectly with my jewel-toned concept. I will keep my face simple and minimal, only using Nars Tinted Moisturizer in Light2 Alaska, MAC concealer to cover the dark circles, a bit of blush with Nars Orgasm on the cheekbones. Lips will be glossy and stained with YSL Glossy Stain in #10, a glossy red.

I can't exactly get my groove thang on in a floor-length ball gown, so I brought with me a gorgeous turquoise bandage dress that lifts my puppies up in the bust. The silver heels and accessories won't change, keeping with the silver motif.

So I'm off! I am tres sorry about the delay in blogposts but I promise to detail all the  fun events that are keeping me from actually writing the blog but that just gives me more stuff to write about, eh. Keep your eyes posted for those blogposts coming soon~

I love to read about preparing for fancy events like this! Do you have any specific go-tos or tips for getting ready for black tie or formal events?
