Product Review: Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask

I've been experimenting with quite a few face masques this year thus far, having already reviewed the Korres Pomegranate Cleansing Masque (my review here) and the staple Kiehl's Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleanser (my review here). In the excitement of trying out new and shiny products, I'd neglected to do a proper product review for one of my all-time favorite masks, the Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask.

I've used this charcoal-based mask on and off since 2011, and its staying power in my ever-revolving beauty cabinet attests to why this mask is an oldie but a goodie for me. I love Origins and their commitment to natural and organic ingredients that come without parabens, PABA, paraffin, animal products, and all the bad nasties that you generally want to steer away from.

The black color of the mask comes from activated charcoal that will bring out dirt clogged in your long-suffering pores. There's also white China clay that "absorbs environmental toxins".

After you apply a thin layer all over your face, putter around- buff your nails, watch that new episode of "New Girl", or organize your jewelry box.

When the masque starts to tighten around your face, go get a face cloth, wet it, and pop it into the microwave for one minute. Let it rest for 30 seconds (it will be HOT), and then carefully place it over your face for a bit of a steam session. After the initial heat leaves the cloth, use it to wipe off the masque. Whatever bits are left, wash off with warm water, and use cool water in combination with a foam cleanser (I love Origins Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash- my review of that here) to tighten the pores again.

This is one of my go-to face masques for a mini pamper session. The skin on my face has a deliciously clean and tight sensation after use, and it feels better than those blackhead pore strips that leaves such a caustic burning sensation when you rip them off because you're basically ripping off your skin cells along with whatever blackheads may be there.

The Origins Charcoal Mask is perfect for my combination skin, and definitely earns its spot as one of my HGs.

What about you? What is your favorite masque?
