Beauty: Shopping the Stash

I had promised one of these posts about a month back before all the traveling posts took over my blog. I keep about two baskets/trays full of beauty products that I either didn't like at first application or, like the magpie that I am, I discarded in favor of another shiny new product that I was drawn to. Sometimes, the product didn't get a fair chance by me, and I may have used once or twice and decided to throw it in the stash bin. I decided to go into my stash and see what beauty products deserve a second chance!

Hmmm. What is in here that you find interesting?

First thing I grabbed was Benefit's Smokin' Eyes Palette. It comes with a pink highlight shadow, a pewter base shadow, a deep charcoal shadow, a brow zings wax, and an eye bright cream in addition to the wee smoky eyeliner, a hard angle and fluff shadow brush, and a mini pair of tweezers.

What was I thinking abandoning this palette?! Not only is the brow wax perfect for summer because it'll keep your unruly eyebrows in place for any water activity, but the mini tweezers and eyeshadow brush is absolutely perfect for travel! I'm definitely bringing this to Europe with me when I leave later this week!

The second item I picked out was another Benefit product, their discontinued HollywoodGlo, a peachy liquid highlighter. I've swatched my seen-better-days bottle under artificial and natural light above. I remember I used this product in the spring when I wanted a subtle shimmer but after I got my first tan of the summer, I opted for the darker bronzers and highlighters of Nars Laguna and Super Orgasm. I don't know why this product was discontinued because there seems to be still quite a lot of love for this product, and I can attest to it lasting FOREVER. I'll dab a few dots on my face for a natural glow when I don't feel particularly brown one day.

Oh airports and airmalls. I always get sucked into buying something not because I need it for real but because I feel like I need it right then and there. I have a gazillion lip glosses/balms/lipsticks/lip stains but I felt that I NEEDED these Anna Sui Mini Lip Rouges while on a Korean Air flight because A) the air was dry in the cabin as it usually is in high altitude, and B) I felt that the mirror would be helpful in application when in reality I just didn't want to wiggle my way past the person sitting next to me to go to the bathroom on flight. Hmph. These colors are "limited edition" and totally not me (I'm not into pale sticky lip glosses), hence its residence in the stash bin. I may take the pale pink one with me when I travel again, just so I won't buy another lip product while on the flight.

Also in the stash bin are samples that I get from Dior, Chanel, Origins, Fresh, etc etc etc. They're mostly overflowing in another basket but this one caught my eye. It's a miniature version of Dior's Capture Totale Compact SPF 20 in color 020 Light Beige. It's a "cream-infused foundation" that is so smooth that it doesn't crease, and claims to have "daily corrective action on all visible signs of ageing". Okay. I don't use foundation, and I told the salesgirl this, but she insisted on throwing it into my bag, and considering it's $98.00 USD for a full-sized compact, I feel like I shouldn't throw it away and maybe try it out. I'll report back on how well it works on my face!

I feel like I've found some hidden treasures here! It's certainly interesting to see how fickle my mind is regarding beauty products, which makes me wonder if I should research a bit more with my purchases? My bank account certainly agrees.

What about you? Have you shopped your own stash before? Have you found any treasures?

  6. I really like this idea for those products that loose favor. I kinda dump them everywhere and anywhere which is pretty annoying cos they end up piling up. I guess keeping them in one spot I can work through each one and might find something I need!

    1. Totally agree! I find it a waste to merely throw them away, and what's old becomes new again!

  9. Do you ever mix the liquid highlighters with your foundation? Or would that be too shimmery and make your face look like a disco ball?

    1. I never wear foundation X_X I hate the clogging feeling it gives my skin. Definitely a BB cream here and there, and never mixed in with the highlighters because yes, a giant gold disco head would be the exact description for my face then! ^____^
