What's In My Makeup Bag #1: Regular Size

This is the regular makeup bag that I keep with me on most days. I hate having lip balms and eyeliner pencils rolling around in my bag. It makes me feel like Mary Poppins and her carpet bag full of lamps and mirrors whenever I dig around in my black hole of purses, so it's super functional for me to just keep everything in a makeup bag and throw it into whatever purse I carry for the day.

I make sure to keep items in my makeup bag that will help me easily transition from day to night, and I like to rotate my products out occasionally- every month or so. I also throw mini samples of bigger-sized products I use, and also items that I don't use on a daily basis for makeup but would like to use up.

I received my Dior Makeup Bag as part of an incentive package for spending over a certain amount at Dior. I like its sleek black look, but it's also pretty durable. You can spill oil or powder on it, in it, all over it, and it's easily wiped off with a wet towelette. It's also roomy enough to contain all my makeup essentials, so I tend to take the bag with me in almost all my larger purses.

  1. Wanna Be Sweet Etude House Mirror: The mini mirror was also received because I spent over a certain limit at Etude House (I blame my nail polish addiction) and while most of the free stuff they give you are completely useless, this item is an absolute winner in my eyes because of its ability to prop up on its own. Totally comes in handy when I need to freshen up my makeup after work to meet with friends.
  2. Nars Pro-Prime Skin Smoothing Face Prep: One of my absolute must-haves. It keeps your makeup in place AND acts as the perfect mattifiant if you don't have any oil absorption sheets on you.
  3. Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair (mini size): I refill this cute little container from the normal sized one. If I'm going to wash my face, I need my fix of Advanced Night Repair.
  4. Nars Illuminator in Orgasm 0.07 oz (2ml): I am naturally very pale, so I need a bit of Orgasm every now and then (hurhur). It gives a healthy glow to my cheeks, and even when I don't wear concealer or foundation, I'll give my cheekbones a dab of this to give my face a natural glow.
  5. Aēsop Geranium Leaf Body Cleanser x 2 (sample size): The body cleanser samples from Aēsop are my just-in-case-I-get-stranded cleansers because I refuse to use generic soap on my face and you never know when they might come in handy.
  6. MAC Studio Sculpt Concealer NC20: This concealer has lasted forever. By forever, I mean around 2 years or so. I use it only for blemishes and the occasional touchup when I'm out.
  7. Hair tie
  8. LUSH Gorilla Solid Perfume in Lust: My favorite smell for touchups throughout the day. I'll do a proper review on this soon.
  9. Rimmel London Professional Eyebrow Pencil in 004 Black Brown: I never leave the house without an eyebrow pencil. Eyebrows are essential in framing my face properly.
  10. Benefit BadGal Waterproof Eyepencil in Black: I don't think this eye pencil is all that spectacular- in fact, it's actually misleading because it smudges quite a bit of all my 2nd tier eyeliners. However, it is good for the touchup over my usual black liquid eyeliner that I apply in the mornings.
  11. Makeup Forever Aqualiner Waterproof Eyeliner in Black: This is only used for a winged tip if I need to extend my eyeliner outward for a night out. I wouldn't recommend using this eyeliner by itself only because its staying power is whack. It also gets quite flaky when dried, which is BEYOND annoying.
  12. Nars Larger Than Life Volumizing Mascara:  Stiff brush but a lot of volume from this mascara- unfortunately, virtually no length. Good enough for the makeup bag for topups to my mascara applied in the morning.
  13. Sephora Heated Eyelash Curler
  14. Dior Addict Lip Glow: If I want a more au naturel appearance, I just swipe the Dior Addict Lip Glow on my lips. Apparently, the Lip Glow is one of those lip balms that has color reviver technology to react with your natural body chemistry to "awaken and enhance the natural beauty of your lips" in a "special shade that will last all day". It certainly does NOT last all day but the glow is natural, the balm moisturizing, and the addition of SPF 10 is nice.
  15. Dior Lipstick in 178 Urban: The Dior Lipstick in 178 Urban gives the perfect pale pink coverage for a daytime look.
  16. MAC Satin Lipstick in Russian Red: I always like to keep a dark red lipstick, preferably matted, in every makeup bag I carry for the just-in-case moments. MAC makes amazing reds, and their mattes are thick and gorgeous. It really has a punchy effect on my overall appearance when I need it.
  17. Vaseline Lip Essence Advanced: I bought this at Olive Young one day when my lips were chapped but all my 50 lip balms were (predictably) at home. I just threw this in here because I'm trying to use it up but it's just a basic lip balm, nothing special.
  18. Estée Lauder Pure Color Eyeshadow Duo in 05 Khakis: I don't really include a lot of eyeshadows in my makeup bags because my eyeshadow typically doesn't budge (thanks to Nars Eyeshadow Primer... more about that here) but this eyeshadow duo is perfect because you can lighten the dark khaki color with the ivory for daytime, and layer the khaki in three swipes to get a more dramatic look for night. I love the mirror and the outside packaging, but the lettering in front tends to get worn out, which makes this case look older than it is.

All these items seem like a lot, but it all fits into the Dior makeup bag perfectly without giving it the appearance of a hippopotamus stuffed into a trash bag. I love knowing that my face is prepared for anything no matter where the day (or night) takes me, and my obsessive-compulsive nature necessitates I anticipate all emergency situations.

I'm curious to know what you carry in your makeup bag. Are they essentials, samples, or just whatever you happen to love at the moment?
